The 19th, District of Ruins and New Light

← Back to Districts List

Overview

The 19th is where all abandoned buildings end up eventually, shifted here by the magic of the City. For a long time, it's had a reputation as a haunted, barren place, but recently the council has opened up the buildings in the district to any who'll repair them, bringing small communities of new life to the ruins. In time, many of these renovated homes and shops are shifted back elsewhere in the City, but many owners decide to stay in the 19th, content with their newfound communities.

Cinderspark Alley

Cinderspark Alley is one of these new communities, and is made up of a few budding homes and businesses, forming a small parade of shops.

The Bent Nail, a woodwork and carpentry shop ran by Tally Fellbranch, an older pixie man, aims to supply many of these new businesses and homes with furniture and building supplies, custom made in the district. He sources much of his materials from the ruins nearby, recycling old wood into new crafts.

Similarly, the Steam and Steel Blacksmith's provides metalwork and repairs to the alley. This small forge was opened by Embric and Avi, a fire and water genasi couple, who wanted to find somewhere quieter in the city to raise their tiefling daughter, Creation. Embric is from the 25th, and worked for a large factory until he moved out here. Avi is a cleric of Nautilus from Mesopelaga, who came to the City after meeting his husband while visiting the forges once, and brings his expertise in cold-water smithing to the alley.

The most unique-looking building on the street is Wildflower's Bloom is a herbalist's shop built into an abandoned manor house with a large, overgrown greenhouse by Fala, a cheery half-halfling half-satyr druid.

Next door, is the small, well-furnished home of Vincent Trench, a mysterious older human man. He uses it as an office for the Tiger's Eye, his Private Investigator business.

Tucked into the corner of the street is Book Wyrm's Treasure, the home of Rishaal, a gold Dragonborn wizard. He is in the process of renovating the old library into a functioning wizard's tower, and sells books and scrolls copied from the ruins to fund the repairs.

The largest and newest of these is Maid-to-Order, a horror-themed maid cafe and bar built into an old, haunted tavern. The cafe is owned by Farron, Fryn, Pan, Ren, Syrin, Antimony, and Rusty, who recieved it as a reward from Volo. The bar is usually manned by Lif, the ghost of a previous owner who wants the place to be a hub of the community, and so is happy to don the cafe's signature maid dress and serve customers.
Recently, a Fireball was dropped outside of the cafe, killing three people and drawing the attention of Adventurer's Guild investigators. The Network of Bones is currently suspected to be involved.

Among the Ruins

Few people live in the district outside of these communities, and so those that do are often hermits or people looking for a place to hide. This includes the mysterious seer Hlam, who is rumoured to live in a tower that stretches far above most of the ruins, as well as many hideouts and safehouses for secret organisations like the Harpers and the Network of Bones.
